Continuing a trend begun by early U.S. sci-fi series like The X-Files, The Outer Limits and Stargate, Syfy’s 12 Monkeys is the latest American show to shoot in Canada.
The U.S. cable channel’s adventure thriller will start production on a 13-part first season in Toronto on Aug. 6. It is shooting at Cinespace Studios in Toronto.
That follows other Syfy series shooting here, including the space-based thriller Ascension, the adventure drama Killjoys, and Defiance and Warehouse 13, both of which were shot in Toronto, and Helix and Being Human in Montreal.
Syfy has already picked up a slew of Canadian-made series like Bitten, Haven, Lost Girl and Continuum for stateside broadcast.
12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford, Amanda Schull, Kirk Acevedo and Noah Bean, in addition to Emily Hampshire and Tom Noonan boarding with recurring roles.
12 Monkeys portrays a time traveller from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock.
The series is produced by Atlas Entertainment, with Universal Cable Productions.
