The Directors Guild of Canada has released its list of nominees for the 13th edition of its annual awards, with the directors of The F Word, Cas & Dylan and Continuum among those up for best direction awards.
The nominees in the best direction – feature film category are Michael Dowse for The F Word, Don McKellar for The Grand Seduction, Jason Priestly for Cas & Dylan and Peter Stebbings for Empire of Dirt.
In the TV categories, the directors nominated for best direction in a television series are Simon Barry for the Continuum episode “Second Guess,” John Fawcett for the Orphan Black episode “Endless Forms Most Beautiful,” Rick Rosenthal for the Beauty and The Beast episode “Partners in Crime,” and Pat Williams for his work on the Continuum episode “Second Time.”
In the best direction for television movie/miniseries, Jerry Ciccoriti was nominated for Holidaze, Peter Moss was nominated for Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery, and Craig Pryce received a nod for his work on The Good Witch’s Wonder. Finally, Kristoffer Tabori received a nomination for Guess Who’s Coming to Christmas.
The F Word, Cas & Dylan, Enemy, Gabrielle and The Grand Seduction all received nominations in the best feature film category. In the best television series – drama category, Cracked was nominated for the episode “Ghost Dance” and Rookie Blue received a nod for the episode “Under Fire.” Two Orphan Black episodes also received nominations in the category: “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” and “Variation Under Nature.”
The nominations for the best television series – family category were evenly split between two shows: Degrassi received nominations for the episodes “Better Man” and “Hypnotize,” while Heartland was nominated for “Darkness and Light” and “The Penny Drops.” In the best television series – comedy category, Call Me Fitz was nominated for the episode O-Rigins, Satisfaction was nominated for the episode “First Contact,” Seed for “Birth of a Salesman” and Spun Out for the episode “Egg Salad.”
