The city of Toronto's economic development committee reported nearly two-thirds of the production activity last year came from TV series production.

On location filming in Toronto surpassed the $1 billion mark for the third year running in 2013, the city reported Wednesday.

The city of Toronto’s economic development committee, presenting a report at City Hall on the city’s screen-based industry, said $1.19 billion was spent on location shoots in Toronto last year.

The 2013 expenditures were virtually unchanged from the $1.2 billion mark reached in 2012.

The city also said the local spend on Canadian productions reached $515 million in 2013, a new record.
