Chelsea McMullan’s documentary My Prairie Home, about the transgender musician Rae Spoon, will compete at the Sundance Film Festival next month.
The Canadian documentary, which debuted at the Vancouver International Film Festival in September and has backing from the National Film Board of Canada, will contend in the world cinema documentary competition at Sundance with an international premiere.
The film offers a visual meditation on Spoon with interviews and performances, often set against images of the Canadian prairies.
McMullan is best known for her short films, including Mise en Scene, also a collaboration with the NFB.
Robert Redford’s Sundance festival is set to run from January 16 to 26, 2014 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
