Jan Miller steps down as Strategic Partners director after 15 years

(UPDATED) The departure follows news last week that Lia Rinaldo is leaving the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax as festival director after 22 years in the post (Miller pictured).

Jan Miller is leaving as director of Strategic Partners, ahead of the Canadian co-production conference’s 2013 edition.

“For fifteen years, it has been an absolute pleasure to nurture and lead the seed of an idea into a major international, sought-after event right here in Halifax, Nova Scotia,” Miller said in a statement Monday.

Strategic Partners, which runs in Halifax during the Atlantic Film Festival, became inextricably bound up with Miller as her match-making event looked to forge co-productions between Canadian film producers and mostly American and European partners.

The 2012 edition put the annual spotlight on the U.S. and the U.K., with American producers returning as a focus nation for the third year running as film producers increasingly use partnerships with Los Angeles players to get their projects financed.

“I’m already looking forward to pulling the next door right open and discovering new ways to support, help connect talent and fight the good fight – and especially – to find new ways to stay connected with this wonderful industry!” Miller added.

Lia Rinaldo

Her departure follows news last week that Lia Rinaldo will leave as festival director at the Atlantic Film Festival after 22 years in the post.

“After 22 years at the Atlantic Film Festival, I felt that the time was right to step off and pursue my passions in the culinary sector. A few projects are in the hopper including plans to expand the Slow Motion Food Film Festival along with Chef Michael Howell. The event has enormous marquee potential and will shine a spotlight on food through film as well as highlight Nova Scotia–our chefs and our extraordinary food culture,” said Rinaldo in an emailed statement to Playback.
