Shaw Media to co-produce comedy series with ABC

Shaw Media and ABC stateside are collaborating on a half-hour comedy series co-production, a Shaw Media spokesperson has confirmed to Playback.

The series, centering on a cartoonist who is struggling with his personal life and relationships, is to be written by Canuck screenwriter-actor-comedian Bob Martin and exec produced by former eOne exec Noreen Halpern.

Martin recently wrote for and starred in CBC’s Michael Tuesdays & Thursdays. He is also the co-creator, with Susan Coyne and Mark McKinney, of Slings and Arrows, which aired on Movie Central and TMN in Canada and the Sundance Channel stateside.

Halpern’s exit from eOne Television as president of dramatic programming was announced in February. At the time, the L.A.-based Halpern said “there are other mountains to climb and I’m looking forward to that.”
