American Mary’s distrib rights picked up by Universal

The horror film from Vancouver-based IndustryWorks screened at Cannes earlier this year.

Universal Pictures International Entertainment, the global home entertainment division of Universal Pictures, has acquired all rights to American Mary, from Vancouver-based IndustryWorks for several international territories including the U.K. and Germany.

American Mary, directed by Jen and Sylvia Soska of Twisted Twins Productions, stars Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps) and Julia Maxwell (Hot Tub Time Machine).

The horror film focuses on a medical student who becomes increasingly jaded and broke as she goes through school, and is lured into the world of underground surgeries for easy money.

The film screened at the Cannes market earlier this year, and is premiering in the U.K. at Film4 FrightFest in London, which is being held this weekend.
