Quebec director Denis Villeneuve is set to start shooting his upcoming thriller An Enemy, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, in Toronto.
The Incendies director is to shoot the thriller at the Cinespace studio on Kipling Avenue from May 22 through July 13.
Based on the novel The Double by José Saramago, Gyllenhaal will play a dual role as a character who rents a DVD to find his exact double in the film, and then goes out to find him.
The Canada-Spain co-production comes from indie producer Rhombus Media and Spanish partner Roxbury Pictures, with Sari Friedland producing.
Javier Gullon adapted the screenplay for An Enemy, with Alliance Films on board to release the picture domestically.
Villeneuve in fall 2012 is slated to direct the Hugh Jackman-starrer Prisoners.
