Spoofing the teen vampire craze, Teletoon is unleashing its inner bloodsucker with My Babysitter’s a Vampire, on Oct. 9.
The channel’s first original live-action feature, the Bruce McDonald-directed Vampire is acting as both feature film and pilot, leading in to a 13-part series set to air next year.
Incorporating animation and computer-generated visual effects, My Babysitter’s a Vampire follows 14-year-old Ethan and his friends as they try to keep from getting their blood sucked after learning the truth about Ethan’s babysitter. The movie was developed by Fresh TV and is targeted at six- to 12-year-olds.
Teletoon is leading up to the movie with 60-second and 30-second promos and a behind-the scenes special that will air near the end of September. The promos will drive to a teaser microsite, while the full website will be unveiled Oct. 2. On the site, fans can make their own posters for the movie and make the call whether they are human or vampire.
On Oct. 9, the 88-minute feature is getting the star treatment with a private premiere at the new TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto.
The 13 22-minute episodes of the show have been shot and will air in 2011.
