Quebec film preprod update

Montreal: New film shoots in preproduction in Montreal, according to the stcvq freelance film technicians union, include WW III, a Fox Television mow shooting from July 3 to Aug. 9. Gary Hoffman is executive producer and Iain Patterson is producing.

Locomotion Films is shooting the tv movie thriller Dead of Night from June 9 to July 5. Joanne Forgues and Marc S. Grenier are producing. Grenier is the director.

Telescene Film Group has entered preprod on 20 new hours of Matthew Blackheart, part of the company’s current $80.5-million Action Adventure Network slate.

Blackheart shoots from July through to next March. Paul Painter and Robin Spry are producing. Mychele Boudrias is line producer/pm. The series is being distributed by New Line Television and is exec produced by Richard Donner.

Other upcoming aan movie/ pilots from Telescene include the European coprod Viking, Witness to Fear (exec producer Clive Barker), Halcyon (Wolfgang Petersen) and Secret Life (Roland Joffe). aan pilots premier on u.s. dbs service DirecTv.

Motion International/TVA International is prepping the Montreal leg of the 16-hour block (26 hours) of the action/high-finance intrigue Largo Winch. Filming recently wrapped in France, with action underway here from July 12 to mid-October. The new hours, announced after talks at natpe, are budgeted at $22.5 million, with the Motion/tva share at $15. 7 million. David Patterson is exec producer. Phil Bedard and Larry Lalonde are producing. The director is David Wu.

Largo Winch is an English-track Canada/France coproduction with Dupuis Films, a subsidiary of Editions Dupuis, publisher of the Largo Winch comic book series. The show was developed by Montreal-based Mediatoon, a Dupuis affiliate, and is being produced in association with M6 in France, Betafilm and Tandem Communications in Germany, A.T. Production with RTL-TVi in Belgium and Paramount International Pictures in the u.s.

Global Television Network has licensed the series in Canada.
